Rafting around Serre-Ponçon Lake

The water activities on and around the Lac de Serre-Ponçon are numerous and varied.

As far as rafting is concerned, 3 rivers are part of the legendary routes of the Southern Alps.

The Ubaye and the Guil, which still have a natural flow (perhaps not for much longer) and the Durance, which is more open to all and less technically demanding, will satisfy those looking for an initiation in a reassuring setting.

For the latter, the start is at the foot of the ski resorts of Vars and Risoul as far as the town of Embrun.

The Guil river crosses the Queyras Park upstream from the town of Guillestre in sumptuous gorges surrounded by magnificent peaks. It is a much more sporting descent, the declivity of its course creates exceptional rapids, some of them impassable!

Rafting and kayaking on the Durance River near Embrun are among the most beautiful white water activities in the Southern Alps. These are activities to be done for a good half day between the communes of Saint-Clément sur Durance and Embrun. Rafting down the legendary Durance River is an activity that is accessible to all levels of rafters and can accommodate bookings for large groups of people. One of the most famous rapids in France, called the "Rabioux" wave, is located in the first third of the course which flows into the Lac de Serre Ponçon. Some people compare it to the rapids found on the Ubaye or the Guil in spring. The guide watches over the safety of his team. He makes sure that the information is transmitted correctly for a maximum of sensations, notably for each person in a family.
